About this 4-part series
At the Legal AI and Innovation Summit hosted by Inside Practice on November 21, 2024, three leaders in the intersection of law and technology took the stage to discuss “The Future (and current) State of Search and AI’s Impacts on Knowledge Work More Broadly”. This 4-part blog series recaps their insights and predictions for how search will continue to shape the legal profession.
The panel featured Oz Benamram, Chief Knowledge and Innovation Officer at Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP; Yannic Kilcher, CTO and Cofounder of DeepJudge; and moderator Ilona Logvinova, Director of Practice Innovation at Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton LLP. Together, they explored the rise of contextual and interactive search, how AI-powered tools are redefining document relevance and retrieval, and how these advancements are reshaping the practice of law.
In this final segment of the panel recap, we focus on DeepJudge’s role as the Legal AI platform of the future.
When asked to talk about the future, Benamram predicted “You’re all going to be using DeepJudge. This is the only game in town today that does what Recommind did, but with modern technology.” (17:27)
In terms of specific capabilities, the panelists mentioned several.
DeepJudge pre-indexes all firm data, making it accessible instantly. Unlike all the other AI tools on the market, “everything is already there when you come [to it] as opposed to other places where you start by uploading,” Benamram emphasized. (42:01)
DeepJudge enables users to interact dynamically with search results, asking complex questions and receiving actionable insights. “Yesterday I just received access to the implementation and it's really simple and it's really powerful. All those questions that you otherwise would ask your associate to spend a lot of time [on]... now comes by interacting with the system and that's the beauty of it…,” said Benamram. “The future is bright.” (28:49).
DeepJudge operates entirely within a firm’s firewall, addressing privacy and compliance concerns. “Simpson Thacher took the position that we cannot use tools that leave our firewall. So we like that about DeepJudge,” said Benamram. (49:53).
The panel provided a comprehensive look at how AI and advanced search tools are transforming legal practice. Whether by streamlining workflows, enhancing efficiency, or enabling dynamic interactions with data, tools like DeepJudge represent the future of legal technology. By focusing on matters, serving as the platform for AI workflows, and maintaining a secure infrastructure, DeepJudge is setting a new standard for what legal search can achieve.
