Welcome to the latest installment in our ongoing series of getting to know the DeepJudge team.
Meet Anne McNulty, SVP of Customer Success at DeepJudge. Anne’s “first career” was as a corporate lawyer at Goodmans, a top Canadian law firm. Her journey into legal technology software began with machine learning contract analysis pioneer Kira Systems where she led the world’s first (and probably largest) Legal Knowledge Engineering department, who managed the development of thousands of supervised machine learning models while also serving as subject matter expert for the product team. Obsessed with customer satisfaction, Anne then went on to lead Customer Success. She continued in Customer Success and Revenue Operations roles at Agiloft and then CARET Legal, and now DeepJudge.
Join us as we ask them some questions and learn more about the people behind DeepJudge.
I grew up in Ottawa, Canada, and moved to Toronto for law school. I first became interested in legal technology while working as a corporate associate at a law firm. As a junior lawyer, I often had to create signature packets for deals - compiling PDFs of the signature pages from all the documents each signatory needed to sign. My life became dramatically easier when we started using PDF editing software. It sounds simple, but it solved a significant pain point, allowing me to focus on more important work. Many junior lawyers feel disillusioned with the tasks they’re assigned straight out of law school. One of the many benefits of legal technology’s advancement over the past decade is that it enables them to skip some of the more tedious, less intellectually stimulating work they once had to do.
I studied business in my undergraduate degree and then went to law school. Working at a tech company allows me to combine both of these disciplines in the best way!
I can’t pick just one. First, it’s hard to overstate the significance of the problem we’re solving. As a law firm associate, I knew there was invaluable knowledge hidden in our document management and other systems, but I struggled to find it. I desperately wanted to learn from the insights my colleagues had already generated. I love being part of a company that not only has a meaningful impact on how lawyers work but also helps firms surface their most valuable assets.
But also, the incredible team. Working alongside people with such deep technical expertise is truly a privilege.
I can (almost) parallel park with my eyes closed.
I love walking my dogs. I’m also trying to take up skiing - especially since joining a Swiss company!
Adopting technology can feel daunting, often due to concerns that it won’t deliver the promised value. In my experience, this can be avoided in two ways:
First, get super clear on the problem you’re trying to solve and staying laser-focused on that - don’t try to boil the ocean.
And second, choose a vendor you genuinely trust who is solving that problem effectively.
What excites me most about DeepJudge is the unprecedented access it provides to a law firm’s existing knowledge. This unlocks countless possibilities, including helping firms maximize the value of their investments in generative AI. As lawyers continue to adopt technology more strategically, DeepJudge will serve as the foundation for many of the most innovative tools in the industry.
